All I can say for this book that there are so many mistakes in here that it is ridiculous. I know this is a first edition and all, but it is INEXCUSABLE how many mistakes there are. Nary a page goes by where I can pick something out that is incorrect... Buy this book with extreme caution.

I really don't understand how a book could be produced with this many mistakes. To be fair, I'm not sure if I've ever had the first edition of a text/review book before, but this thing is rife with glaring errors. And here's the bad news: I'm really, really not that great a med student. So if I'm seeing THESE mistakes, what else is there to be found?

I get that one or two mistakes are going to get through, especially in a fact-heavy volume like this. But there's some pretty serious conceptual screw-ups here, too. You've been warned...

Pros : This book has a format that is easy on the eyes, and contains clear explanations, tables, useful mnemonics, and excellent illustrations.

Cons: The text is absolutely laden with errors, both minor nuisance-type errors and major conceptual-misunderstanding-type errors. On the minor end of the spectrum, it is stated that mumps orchitis occurs more commonly in boys < 10 y, it is stated that DCML system fibers travel in the ANTERIOR limb of the internal capsule, that trazodone is an antipsychotic, etc. Major errors include the statement that Wernicke's aphasia patients are typically frustrated (with no mention of frustration in Broca's aphasia), BPH occurs mostly in the central zone, "Fused lower ends of the mullerian duct forms the uterus, cervix, and upper two-thirds of the vagina," and (many) more - these are off the top of my head.

Overall, I'm deeply frustrated by the sheer number of errors present in this book, which is unacceptable even for a first edition. That being said, this has the potential to become an good resource in future editions.
