Shelly was known at work as an incredibly conservative human being who had an excellent work record. She never went to any of the happy hours after work and it was regarded through the company that she was an incredibly spiritual individual who commonly talked about the hazards regarding alcohol abuse and dependency on alcohol in our country.
Try to imagine the shock inside the workplace when one Monday morning Shelly did not show up for work and no one had heard from her. In reality, it wasn’t until around 11:30 in the morning that the human resources department received a phone call about Shelly from the local jail.
Shelly Goes Out Drinking Together With a Handful of Her College Classmates and Friends
Evidently, Shelly went out drinking with several of her college friends Saturday night and at some time close to 5:45 Sunday morning, Shelly was arrested for a DWI. Because her blood alcohol content level (BAC) was exceptionally high, she had to spend one day inside the city jail.
Shelly Has a Talk With Her Manager and The Human Resources Manager
When Shelly arrived at work on Tuesday morning, she right away shared with her boss what had transpired and she asked if she might possibly go and talk with the Human Resources director about her "driving under the influence" arrest.
When she got to the HR department and met with the director, she explained that she had not been inebriated since her college days and that she was rather embarrassed about her DWI arrest. She also emphasized the point that she needed some help selecting a highly trained and effective DUI lawyer who would represent her DUI case. More to the point, Shelly really wanted the Human Resources manager to agree that she needed to see a DUI attorney.
The Human Resources manager told Shelly that she needs to see someone in the company employee’s assistance program to discuss any future drinking difficulty that she might have. The HR manager also mentioned that she needs to go over her wish to employ a "driving under the influence" lawyer to represent her with respect to her "driving under the influence" case.
Moreover, the Human Resources director told Shelly that it was encouraging that she hoped to hire a DUI attorney simply because of the difficulties and difficult implications that happen to be linked to a "driving under the influence" conviction.
The Human Resources director could tell that Shelly was apparently disappointed and humiliated by this entire scenario. For this reason he informed Shelly that while he doesn’t feel that conscientious people should ever get behind the steering wheel after consuming alcohol, regrettably these predicaments at times happen to incredibly good persons.
The Human Resources director then mentioned that since such a situation cannot be undone, what's critical is what the individual does from this minute forward. As declared by the Human Resources manager, “does the individual learn from his or her mistakes or does she or he develop a pattern of alcohol related issues that cause the man or women chronic suffering and pain”?
Fortunately, Shelly Did Not Have a History of Hazardous and Irresponsible Drinking
Just before completing their conversation, the Human Resources director told Shelly that it was very positive that she doesn’t have a history of unhealthy drinking drinking. Not only this but she hasn’t had an alcohol-related problem since her university days (which was approximatley 16 years ago). As a result, Shelly ought to be in a position to confront her "driving while intoxicated" arrest with sorrow but also with confidence that she will encounter and work through this issue and turn out to be a better person in the not too distant future.
Shelly thanked the Human Resources director for his uplifting and motivating thoughts and then walked over towards the company employee’s assistance program go over her "driving while intoxicated" arrest, her involvement in hazardous and irresponsible drinking over the weekend, and her need to retain a DWI lawyer to represent her DWI case.
After hearing Shelly's "story," the psychologist that was part of the company employee’s assistance program explained Shelly's immediate "game plan" that she needed to address and follow. First, she would be required to take a DUI class to learn more DUI facts and information. Second, she would also be required to take an alcohol abuse class to address her possible problem drinking. And finally, it would be an especially pragmatic thing to do if she were to meet with a DUI lawyer about her "driving while intoxicated" arrest.
Shelly Feels a Sense of Relief Knowing That She Will Learn From Her Mistake and Grow To Be Even More Responsible
It was obvious that Shelly was really displeased with the whole "drunk driving" circumstance, but right after talking to the Human Resources director and to the therapist in the company employee’s assistance program, she felt encouraged that she would in fact learn from her error in judgment and grow to be even more healthy and balanced, more responsible, and an even more grateful person.
